LANSING, Mich. – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the Purdue men's tennis team traveled to take on Michigan State, dropping to the Spartans by a score of 5-2.
After Purdue dropped the doubles match at No. 3, Michal Wozniak and Milledge Cossu topped the No. 49 duo in the nation in Nick Williams and Kazuki Matsuno by a score of 6-4 at No. 1.
With the doubles point on the line, Tomasz Dudek and Sebastian Welch took the match at No. 2 to a tiebreaking set, but fell to Michigan State's Jarreau Campbell and Graydon Lair 7-6(4).
Despite a Purdue loss in straight sets at No. 3, Milledge Cossu continued his success, giving Purdue its first point in the contest by besting Anthony Pero 6-2, 7-5.
Purdue losses at No. 5 and No. 6 clinched the match for the Spartans.
After the clinch, Mateo Julio took Nick Williams to a third set despite losing the first. The Purdue senior edged Williams in the third set to claim the second point for the Boilermakers with a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Boilermakers will head to Ann Arbor to take on No. 24 Michigan tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for noon ET.
