WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue All-Americans Brandon Loschiavo and Maycey Vieta are set to return to action this week as they compete for country at the FINA Diving World Cup in Tokyo.

Loschicavo will represent the USA in synchronized 10-meter with fellow NCAA and USA Diving national champion David Dinsmore (University of Miami alumnus). Vieta is slated to compete in all four women's events for Puerto Rico. She'll team with Elizabeth Miclau (Harvard) in the synchronized events.

Vieta and Miclau won silver together in 3-meter synchro at the South American Diving Championships the weekend of March 26 to 28 in Buenos Aires. At the NCAA Championships last month, Loschiavo was the national champion on 10-meter and Vieta won bronze on the tower.

Action is set for May 1 to 6, but because of the time different between Tokyo and the USA's Eastern Time Zone, the meet will take place April 30 to May 5 in North America. The Olympic Channel is scheduled to have the live television coverage of all the finals rounds. The FINA Diving World Cup has been rescheduled at least twice from its original dates in April 2020.

Purdue alumni David Boudia and Steele Johnson qualified for FINA Diving World Cup via their victory together in 3-meter synchro at the 2019 USA Diving Winter National Championships. However, USA Diving recently announced Mike Hixon and Andrew Capobianco would be representing the U.S. in the event instead. Hixon was already scheduled to compete individually on 3-meter.

The top three finishers in the synchronized events at the 2019 FINA World Championships earned Olympic quota spots for their countries at the upcoming Olympic Games. Japan has also auto-qualified as the Olympic host. That means the top four finishing teams, excluding those that have already qualified, also clinch the remaining Olympic quota spots in synchro events over the next week at the FINA World Cup. Women's 10-meter synchro is the only synchronized event in which the U.S. has already earned a quota spot for the Olympics.

Team USA's divers for the 32nd Olympiad this summer in Tokyo will be selected at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, set for June 6 to 13 in Indianapolis, regardless of the results this week at the FINA World Cup.

Loschiavo and Dinsmore teamed up to win the 10-meter synchro title at the 2019 USA Diving World Championships. Loschicavo has represented Team USA internationally at the last two FINA World Championships (2017, 2019) as well as the 2018 FINA World Cup.
