WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue soccer freshman forward Nicole Kevdzija has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Kevdzija is recognized for the second consecutive week by the Big Ten Conference, after she earned Freshman of the Week accolades on March 2.
A Strongsville, Ohio, native, Kevdzija scored both of Purdue's goals to lead the Boilermakers to a 2-0 shutout win at Wisconsin on Monday. The first came in the 8th minute on a strike from the edge of the 18-yard box, and the second was in the 28th minute on a header inside the six off a corner kick. She led the team with three shots, two on goal.
It is Kevdzija's second and third career Big Ten weekly honor, joining last week's freshman accolade. She is the first Boilermaker to be named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since Maddy Williams on Oct. 24, 2017.
While starting all five matches, Kevdzija leads the Big Ten and is No. 27 nationally with two match-winning goals. She is second in the conference with three goals and seven points and third in goals (0.60) and points (1.40) per match. Additionally, Kevdzija is second on the squad with 11 shots, five shots on goal and one assist.
Kevdzija is the fourth Boilermaker freshman since 2008 to score three goals in her first five collegiate matches. The last Purdue freshman to have three goals through five matches played was now-senior Hannah Melchiorre in 2017.
The victory at Wisconsin was Purdue's second in a row against the Badgers after a nine-match losing streak over UW was snapped in last season's Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal.
Up next, Kevdzija and Purdue returns home for a three-match homestand beginning on Saturday, March 13, against Northwestern. Kickoff against the Wildcats is set for 1 p.m. ET at Folk Field.
