IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Purdue men's tennis team could notpick up its second straight road win Sunday afternoon at Iowa. The Boilermakers fell to the Hawkeyes 4-0.
Iowa took an early lead with back-to-back wins of 6-1 at No. 2 and 3. Mateo Julio and Michal Wozniak were battling back from a 5-2 deficit against No. 17 Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo at No. 1.
The Hawkeyes clinched the match with a trio of straight set wins at No. 2, 3 and 4.
When play was halted, Purdue had a trio of contests on their way to split sets. Mateo Julio had a lead in the second set against No. 39 Kareem Allaf when play was halted, as did Sebastian Welch against Okonkwo at No. 2
Freshman Milledge Cossu was narrowly bested in the opening set against Peter Alam at No.6, 7-6 (5), but their match was tied 2-2 in the second set at the conclusion of play.
The Boilermakers will make their 2021 home debut next weekend at the Schwartz Tennis Center against Michigan State on Saturday and No. 15 Michigan on Sunday.
