WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – On the opening day of the FIU Invite, the Purdue women's tennis team claimed a six of singles wins in Miami.
After dropping all three doubles contests against host FIU in the early session, the Boilermakers rebounded with six singles victories split against USF and FIU.
Facing South Florida, Csilla Fodor continued her strong fall with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Amelie Boy in straight sets. Freshman Carmen Gallardo Guevara brushed off Alexandria Mjos in a 6-4, 6-0 sweep. Fellow rookie Tara Milic bested Grace Eland over three sets, rallying from down one, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-2.
Of the three singles wins against FIU, two need three sets to settle the affairs. Juana Larranaga bounced back from a first set defeat to beat Ines Bekrar, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Seira Shimizu pulled out a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Cecilia Alcobe-Garibay, while Rut Galindo cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Audelia Morin-Kougoucheff.
The Boilermakers will return to action Saturday with doubles against USF and singles against FAU.
