WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team moved up in the national rankings to No. 19 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25.
Ranked nationally for the second consecutive week, the Boilermakers' spot in the poll is its highest since 2009. The team is up six spots after they debuted at No. 25 last week.
Purdue is 10-2-2 overall and 5-1-0 in the Big Ten, both its best marks since 2007. Winners of two in a row and eight of their last nine, the Boilermakers are second in the conference standings with 15 points after a dramatic, come-from-behind, 3-2 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
The Old Gold and Black also moved up one spot to No. 2 in the North Region ranking, and they are No. 20 in the latest NCAA RPI. Purdue is No. 27 in the College Soccer News Top 30 Poll.
The last time the Boilermakers appeared in the national rankings prior to last week was when they entered the 2009 NCAA Tournament ranked No. 24. This week's No. 19 ranking is the highest since they were No. 18 on October 12, 2009.
One of three Big Ten teams in this week's poll, Purdue is joined by No. 9 Rutgers and No. 22 Michigan, while Wisconsin is receiving votes. Additionally, non-conference opponents Notre Dame is No. 17.
Up next, No. 19 Purdue takes to the road for the final time in the regular season this week, with contests at Ohio State and Penn State. The trip begins in Columbus on Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m. ET.
