LAST TIME OUT
Purdue took eight of 10 matches from the Wildcats in both teams' season debuts Friday, including bonus-point wins from Schroder and Penola, and career-first dual wins for junior Bjorn Schroeder and three freshman starters. The win marked the ninth straight season the Boilermakers opened the dual schedule with a victory, and their second consecutive year with a win over Northwestern.

PURDUE NOTES
• Head coach Tony Ersland is 57-45 in his six seasons at Purdue, including a 21-34 mark in Big Ten Duals. He posted career-best marks of 12-5 overall and 5-4 in conference action in 2019-20, Purdue's best records, both overall and B1G, since 2012-13.
• Purdue is 30-58-2 all-time against Illinois, including last year's 18-14 win in Champaign. The win was Ersland's first over the Fighting Illini since becoming the Boilermakers' head coach in 2013-14.
• The Boilermakers are 16-44-2 all-time against Wisconsin, heading to Madison for the first time since 2018, and looking to avenge last year's 27-14 dual loss in Holloway Gymnasium. Purdue has won three of the last four dual meetings in Wisconsin Field House, including a 25-15 win in Madison in 2018 over the 18th-ranked Badgers.
• Schroder climbed to No. 2 in the country at 125 pounds via The Open Mat, TrackWrestling and WIN Magazine. It marks the second straight season the Boilermakers have had an individual move to No. 2 in the country, following Christian Brunner at 197 in 2019-20.
• With 12 back points in his season-opening win, Schroder eclipsed the 400-career back point mark (402) and surpassed Scott Hinkel for second all-time at Purdue.
• Schroder's 16-0 technical fall over Northwestern's Matt Vinci was the 20th of his career. Schroder tied for fifth in NCAA Division I last season with eight tech falls.
• Junior Parker Filius had one of the biggest turnarounds of any wrestler in the country in 2019-20, improving from 9-20 in his freshman campaign to 19-10 last year, including an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
• Alec White and Emil Soehnlen both received NCAA Medical Hardship waivers for the 2019-20 season after sustaining season ending injuries early in the year. Soehnlen returned to action at 174 pounds Friday vs. Northwestern, while White may make his season debut this weekend.
• Sophomore Kendall Coleman will face Illinois for the first time in his career Friday after missing last season's dual with a concussion. His 2020 match against the Badgers featured a 12-takedown technical fall win, which was the highest scoring bout by a Boilermakers last season (26-11)
• Penola's return to 197 pounds Friday was a productive one as he scored a team-most eight takedowns in a 21-6 technical fall win.
• Penola had a fourth-place finish at the 2020 U23 Freestyle Championships, including wins over 2020 All-Americans Jay Aiello and Nathan Traxler.
• The Boilermakers will wear a commemorative sticker on their headgear in 2021, honoring the late Morgan J. Burke, who served as Purdue's Athletics Director for 23 years and passed away in 2020.
