BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Alexis Zatta won the high jump and freshman Ian Hunter earned a top-10 time in school history as the Purdue track & field team competed at the Big Ten Indiana Invitational No. 2 on Friday, April 9, in Bloomington, Indiana.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Alexis Zatta won the high jump and freshman Ian Hunter earned a top-10 time in school history as the Purdue track & field team competed at the Big Ten Indiana Invitational No. 2 on Friday, April 9, in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
As they withstood rain and several lightning delays, the Boilermakers earned five runner-up finishes, two third-place showings and eight personal-best marks along with Zatta and Hunter's performances at IU's Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex.
 
Zatta's victory came in the high jump, as she cleared 1.77 meters. The second-best mark in the Big Ten this season, she is just shy of a spot in the Purdue record books in the event. Fellow sophomore Mackenzie Barrett was third, with a jump of 1.67 meters. Both Zatta and Barrett earned personal-best marks.
 
Freshman Ian Hunter put his name on the top-10 list in school history in the 1,500. His personal-best time of 3:47.17 is No. 6 in Boilermaker history and was good for a seventh-place finish in the event.
 
In the pole vault, junior Tessa Sheets and sophomore Jessica Bray tied for second. They each cleared 3.75 meters.
 
Sophomore Ife Oketona notched a runner-up finish in the men's long jump, thanks to a season-best jump of 6.93 meters. As she competed in the 100-meter hurdle event for the first time in her collegiate career, freshman Jayla Ellis placed second overall. Her time of 14.12 seconds was just 0.04 behind the winner.
 
Sophomore Isaiah Martin earned a personal-best time of 14.47 in the 110-meter hurdles, which was good for a third-place finish. Senior Jaden Mattox was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.80m.
 
Additionally, sophomores Imman Iwu (25.47, 200m) Taylor Mortensen (10:52.88, 3,000m steeplechase) and John Pieper (3:56.02, 1,500m) and freshman Katelyn Wasson (4:33.96, 1,500m) all earned personal-best marks on Friday evening. Seniors Faith Baer and Megan Casey and freshman Gabriele Green also made their collegiate debuts, while several other Boilermakers competed outdoors for the first time in their careers.
 
Up next, Purdue travels to Houston, Texas, next weekend for the Husker Big Ten Invitational. Competition is slated for April 16-17 at the Prairie View A&M Track Stadium
