ROSEMONT, Ill. – After combining for three event victories and five top-two showings at the Big Ten Triple Duals vs. Minnesota and Northwestern, Purdue's Emily Bretscher and Greg Duncan teamed up for a sweep of the Big Ten Diver of the Week awards for the third time this season.
Both Boilermakers claimed their sixth career weekly honors. They both rank among the top three in program history. Duncan has been recognized five times this season and Bretscher on four occasions.
Duncan posted the fourth springboard sweep of his junior campaign, improving to 10-for-12 in event victories at NCAA meets this season. He is the league's first diver to win Big Ten Diver of the Week five times in a season since Purdue's Steele Johnson was a six-time honoree in 2006-17. Michigan's Ross Todd is the only other diver to be recognized multiple times (twice) by the league office in 2019-20.
Bretscher was victorious on 1-meter (301.60) and the runner-up on both 3-meter (324.60) and platform (266.45). She becomes Purdue's first female diver to claim Big Ten Diver of the Week four times in a season. She also broke the league-high tie with Minnesota's Joy Zhu and Iowa's Jayah Mathews. They'd all be recognized three times in 2019-20 entering the week.
Bretscher and Duncan have now teamed up to sweep the Big Ten Diver of the Week awards four times during their careers, easily the most of any duo of Boilermakers.
