WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team will begin its postseason journey with the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, hosted by Iowa at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track. The Boilermakers are set to compete in the three-day meet beginning Friday, May 10 and concluding Sunday, May 12.
Fans can watch the championships live on BTN Plus and FloTrack, while Sunday's finals will also air on BTN via tape delay Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. ET.
After notching the best Big Ten Indoors Championships finish since 2016, the men's team is off to one of its strongest starts in recent outdoor history. The Boilermakers check in at No. 33 in the national rankings heading into the postseason. In total, the men have ranked among the nation's top 30 for four weeks, including three straight to open the campaign, which is just the second time Purdue has done so since the weekly rankings began. Furthermore, Purdue sits at No. 3 in the USTFCCCA Big Ten rankings, only behind Nebraska and Iowa.
Meanwhile, the women's team enters the meet following two consecutive championships with top 2 finishes. The current women's roster produced 13 marks on the Purdue top 10 outdoor performance list, including four set in the 2019 season. After graduating multiple 2018 championships event winners and numerous podium finishers, Purdue boasts 16 Boilermakers returning to the championships, including two top 8 finishers.
Waseem Williams will look to defend his men's outdoor title in the 100-meter dash where he set the program record a year ago (10.10 seconds). Currently, Williams is joined by teammate Samson Colebrooke to make up the fastest event duo the Boilermakers have ever seen on a given roster. Colebrooke, in his first season with the Boilermakers, set the third-fastest time (10.19 seconds) at the Jim Click Invite. The pair rank No. 3 and No. 4 in the conference this season in addition to top 27 times in the nation.
Jalil Brewer will look to improve upon his second-place finish in the shot put at the indoor B1G championships earlier this year. Brewer was named an All-American after earning a spot in the NCAA Championships with the No.13 throw in the nation. The sophomore has continued to build momentum throughout the outdoor season with a victory at the Louisville Invite and a second-place finish at the Drake Relays in the last two meets of the regular season. Brewer ranks No. 2 in the conference and No. 23 in the nation heading into the meet.
Meanwhile, triple jumpers Jah Strange and Tamar Greene check in at No. 9 and No. 13 in the nation. The most formidable jumping duo in program history are coming off a 1-2 finish at the Drake Relays, where they each set personal-bests. Strange jumped a 16.19 mark while Greene produced a 16.17-meters.
Newcomers on the men's side are highlighted by Blanchard Montgomery IV and Isaiah Martin. Montgomery became the third-fastest 400-meter hurdler in Purdue history after running a 51.07 time at the Louisville Invite. With the time, the freshman owns the second-fastest mark in the league and is one of just five freshmen to rank among the nation's top 30. Meanwhile, Martin holds the best decathlon score (7,451) in the B1G and the No. 15 mark in the nation to become the first Boilermaker since 1998 to surpass 7,000-point benchmark (ranks No. 3 all-time at Purdue).
Despite Camille Christopher's short time with Purdue thus far, the freshman sprinter entered the Purdue performance list in not one but two events – the 100- and 200-meter dash. Christopher tops off at No. 5 in the league's 100-meter sprint with a personal-best of 11.59 seconds. With the performance, Christopher became one of three current Boilermakers to run a top-10 program time (joins Autumn Heath and Sekayi Bracey).
Returners and Big Ten Championships veterans Sarah Lush, Emma Benner and Samara Miller lead the way on the women's team. All three have produced Purdue performance list marks throughout their Boilermaker careers, including Miller's 53.38 second 400-meter run, notched at the meet a year ago.
