WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball's first full week at home this season features a mini five-game homestand, which opens Tuesday with a midweek matinee vs. Valparaiso.

The $2 Midweek Matchup features the final 4 p.m. ET first pitch of the year at Alexander Field. General admission tickets, hot dogs, nachos and domestic draft beers are specially priced at $2 at all Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday home games. Penn State (March 29-31) and Indiana State (April 3) also visit West Lafayette over the next eight days.

The Boilermakers posted a 15-5 record at home last season, their best mark since Alexander opened in 2013. Purdue's 13-game home win streak was snapped in the March 12 home opener vs. Milwaukee, but a 9-2 win vs. Bowling Green led to some positive vibes going into a series win at Northwestern to open Big Ten this past weekend.

Beginning Tuesday, the Boilermakers play 22 of their final 32 regular-season games at home. They're at home for five of the next eight weekends.

Purdue's 4-1 win vs. Valpo during the final week of March was part of a six-game win streak, during which the Boilermakers opened Big Ten play 4-0. Now they've managed to win their first series of league play in consecutive years for the first time since 1994 and 1995.

Ryan Beard and Bo Hofstra both contributed to the four-hitter in last year's win vs. the Crusaders. Beard impressed with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his Alexander Field debut and went on to be Purdue's top pitcher at home last season.

A year later, another new southpaw will take the ball against Valpo. James Kulak gets another midweek start as he continues to work his way back from an injury that sidelined him for weekends No. 2 through 5. Kyle Wade has also impressed in his first two midweek outings, surrendering only two earned runs over a combined 10 2/3 innings vs. Milwaukee and Bowling Green. The freshman has not issued a walk in those two appearances at Alexander Field.

Alumnus Mike Kornacker (2015-18) has been a weekend starter for the Crusaders this season. He made the move to Valparaiso as a graduate transfer after earning his degree from Purdue in May 2018.

JOHNSON BECOMES ONLY RELIEVER WITH 10-STRIKEOUT GAME SINCE 2005
Trent Johnson struck out 10 of the 15 batters he faced over 4 1/3 innings of one-hit relief Saturday at Northwestern, becoming just the eighth Boilermaker with a double-figure strikeout game since the beginning of the 2005 season. He's the only member of that group to do it as a reliever.
By striking out 67 percent of the batters he faced, Johnson accounted for one of the most dominant performances by a Purdue pitcher since 2005. Only six Boilermakers have recorded at least five Ks and struck out more than half the batters they faced, with current big leaguer Nick Wittgren accomplishing the feat twice in 2011. Johnson's 10 Ks are easily the most among that group.

BOILERMAKERS' MOST DOUBLE-FIGURE STRIKEOUT GAMES SINCE 2005
Purdue is on pace to smash its top team total for double-figure strikeout games since 2005. With 10-plus Ks in six of their last eight games and 11 times total this year, the Boilermakers have already surpassed last year's total. However, important to note: from 2005-2008, Saturday doubleheaders in Big Ten play featured a pair of seven-inning games.

REACHED SAFELY 9 TIMES IN A 3-GAME SERIES/WEEKEND SINCE 2011
Nick Evarts had multiple hits in all three games of the Northwestern series, reaching base safely nine times over the course of the weekend. In a three-game series or weekend, that's a feat which has only been accomplished 25 times by a combined 15 players since the beginning of the 2011 campaign. A Boilermaker did it six times last year, but from 2014 to 2017, it was only accomplished three times by a Purdue player.
