Friday Results

TAMPA, Fla. -
Six Boilermakers earned a berth in the NCAA Championships with their performances Friday. Purdue now has eight entries in the national championships and have an opportunity to earn up to 13 more Saturday.

Sophomore Ashmon Lucas was first to qualify and did so in the men's discus. His first throw went 54.67 meters (179-4), which would end up to be enough to advance. His second throw was better though and moved him up to sixth. That distance was 55.62 meters (182-6) and earned him his first trip to the NCAA Championships.

Senior Brionna Thomas and sophomore Chloe Abbott advanced in the 400-meter dash. Thomas won the second heat with a time of 51.19 seconds to earn an automatic trip to the NCAA Championships. Her time was the second fastest on the day. Abbott won the third heat with a time of 51.57 seconds. That was the fourth-best time of the day. Both also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash indoors this season.

Sophomore Waseem Williams earned his first trip to NCAA Championships. He qualified in the 100-meter dash after running a time of 10.17 seconds. That was third in his heat and earned an automatic bid.

Senior Symone Black won her heat of the 400-meter hurdles to automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. She cruised to a time of 56.48 seconds, which was 0.46 of a second better than anyone else in her heat. Her time was the third-best of the day. She advances to the final site in the event for the third year in a row.

Senior Micaela Hazlewood earned Purdue's sixth berth of the day in the women's discus. Her flight was delayed three hours because of weather. After the break, she came out and threw a mark of 53.15 meters (174-4). That mark was the third best after the first round of throws. Hazlewood improved her mark on the final attempt. She threw the discus 53.71 meters (176-2), which put her in sixth place and earned her a spot in the NCAA Championships for the fourth year in a row.

Senior Justin Veteto advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals in the 110-meter hurdles. He leaned at the line to take third in the first heat and earn an automatic bid with a time of 14.00 seconds. He'll compete for a spot in the NCAA Championships on Saturday at 1:35 p.m. ET.

Senior Devynne Charlton advanced to the quarterfinals in the 100-meter hurdles with a win in her heat. She finished with a time of 12.82 seconds to win by 0.30 of a second and earn a spot in Saturday's race. Her time was the third-fastest of the day.

Senior Savannah Roberson earned a spot in the 200-meter dash quarterfinals with a third-place finish in her heat. Roberson ran a very windy (+4.8) time of 22.81 seconds to earn an automatic spot. Her time was the 12th fastest of the day. She'll have a chance to advance Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
