NWCA Release / Event Information
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue has been selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals Championship Series presented by Theraworx and the United States Marine Corps. The Boilermakers (8-7, 3-6 B1G) will face off against No. 17 South Dakota State on Friday. Action from Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D., is set to get underway at 8 p.m. ET.
The National Duals Championship Series is in its second year of its current format of eight Big Ten Conference teams pitted against eight non-Big Ten teams in a showcase weekend of college wrestling dual meets. The Big Ten teams will be visiting college campuses in the ACC, Big 12 Conference, EIWA, EWL and Southern Conference.
Friday's dual will be Purdue's first-ever meeting with the Jackrabbits, becoming the 150th all-time opponent in program history. South Dakota State carries an overall mark of 13-4 and finished the regular season second in the Big 12 at 7-1.
Various formats for a national duals event have been used by the NWCA. Regardless of the format used, the Boilermakers have previously participated in the NWCA event five times, the last being in 2013. This season's selection is their first under the current National Duals Championship Series format.
