Saturday Texas Relays Results / Final Texas Relays Results
AUSTIN, Texas ââ'¬" Savannah Carson broke the women's long jump school record on the final day of the Texas Relays. She had four jumps, three wind-legal, that broke the school record with her best mark currently sitting No. 1 in the NCAA.
Carson opened with a wind-legal (+0.7) leap of 6.48 meters (21-3.25). That distance by itself was enough to beat Leah Kincaid's school record of 6.45m (21-2.00) from 2008 and was better than any jump by any other competitor in the competition. After a foul on her second attempt, Carson leapt a wind-aided (+2.8) distance of 6.52m (21-4.75). She then leapt a wind-legal (+0.5) distance 6.47m (21-2.75) on her fourth attempt, before fouling her fifth. On her final attempt, Carson had her best jump of the day, leaping a wind-legal (+1.1) distance of 6.54m (21-5.50), the new school record and nation-leading mark.
The Boilermakers found success in the high jump on the men's and women's sides. Eric Blackman was clear through the first two bars, 2.05m (6-8.75) and 2.10m (6-10.75), before missing twice at 2.15m (7-0.50). As he did in the season opener, he came up clutch on his final attempt and cleared it. That was the final bar he would clear for the day, which was good for his second best effort as a Boilermaker. Blackman finished fifth.
In the women's high jump, Janae' Moffitt was clean through her first two bars, clearing 1.70m (5-7.00) and 1.75m (5-8.75) on her first attempt. At 1.80m (5-10.75), it took her three attempts, but she cleared to earn herself a runner-up finish. The clearance was the best of her career and currently ranks fourth in the country.
At the Texas State Bobcat Invitational, Shantyra Delaney was the top collegiate finished in the 100m hurdles. She ran a wind-aided (+2.5) time of 13.58 seconds.
The Boilermakers are back in action next week at the Battle on the Bayou, hosted by LSU. The Boilermakers will compete in the four-team meet next Saturday.
