INDIAN WELLS, Cal. - The Purdue men's tennis team returns to action Friday at 11:30 a.m. ET against No. 13 California -- the top-seed in the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge presented by Oracle. The Golden Bears are the first of three opponents for the Boilermakers as both the main draw and the consolation draw extend through Sunday. With a victory in the first round, Purdue would then face the winner of No. 6 Baylor and No. 33 SMU on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Boilermakers fell 4-0 to the Bears earlier this season in Waco, Texas.

No. 7 USC, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 32 South Florida and No. 45 Tulsa make up the rest of the eight-team field.

Purdue's only prior meeting with California took place last season; the Boilermakers lost 6-1 in Berkeley, California, as Benjamin Ugarte upset the Bears' No. 10 Andre Goransson to prevent the shutout. Goransson is currently ranked No. 30 -- returning for his senior year -- and will likely be featured in Friday's lineup.

California's roster also boasts three more ranked singles player and two doubles tandems, including No. 1 Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat. Purdue enters with the No. 7 duo in Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla; Madarasz is also ranked No. 102 in singles.
