WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" The Boilermakers wrapped up their home season Saturday at Lambert Fieldhouse. The team had four marks move up the program's all-time top-10 lists, 11 other personal records and three marks that convert to personal bests.
Janae' Moffitt got things going with a PR in the first event of the day ââ'¬" the women's high jump. The defending Big Ten Champion had been trying to better her PR of 1.81 meters (5-11.25) since the Big Ten Championships last year. She broke through Saturday. Moffitt was clean through her first three bars ââ'¬" 1.71m (5-7.25), 1.76m (5-9.25) and 1.81m (5-11.25) ââ'¬" before her first miss came at 1.84m (6-0.50). On her second attempt at the height, Moffitt made it over, barely grazing the bar as it stayed on the standard. Her clearance is tied for the 10th best in the country, is second best in the conference and is third in school history. Moffitt's clearance is the best by a Boilermaker during an indoor season since Carri Long in 1999.
The women's 60-meter dash group had a great day. The Boilermakers had the top five times in prelims, with Carmiesha Cox, Sekayi Bracey, Savannah Roberson, Devynne Charlton and Shantyra Delaney. Charlton went on to win in finals with a time of 7.34 seconds, 0.04 of a second off her PR, but was the only Boilermaker not to PR in finals. Cox ran a time of 7.35 seconds to finish second, a PR by 0.06 of a second and the second week in a row with a lifetime best. Cox's time ranks third in school history, second in the Big Ten this season and 18th in the country. Bracey, a freshman, finished third with a time of 7.50 seconds, a personal best by 0.06 of a second. That moves her from eighth to a tie for fifth in school history and is the sixth best time in the Big Ten this year. Roberson finished fourth with a time of 7.60 seconds after initially running a PR of 7.62 seconds in the prelims. Her time is 0.03 of a second off the Purdue top-10 lists and is among the top 20 in the conference this year. Delany was fifth in the race with a time of 7.77 seconds, a PR by 0.05 of a second.
The Purdue women currently boast the top three 60-meter dashers in the conference and four of the top six.
Roberson wasn't done with the 60m dash. She also raced in the 200m dash and 60m hurdles where she won both events with personal records. In the 200m dash, she ran a time of 24.23 seconds, which converts to 23.86 seconds. Her converted time ranks second in the conference and 19th in the country this year. In the 60m hurdles, Roberson won with a time of 8.59 seconds, which ranks eighth in school history. Her time is 0.05 of a second better than her PR entering the day and ranks 12th in the conference.
Charlton was Saturday's runner-up in the 200m dash with a time of 24.28 seconds, which converts to 23.91 seconds. Her converted time is fourth in the conference this year. Symone Black took third in the race with a time of 24.92 seconds, a converted 24.54-seconds time. That ranks 14th in the Big Ten.
The Purdue women have three of the top four 200m dash times in the conference this season and four of the top six.
Delaney was runner-up in the 60m hurdles after posting the top time in the prelims. She ran a time of 8.63 seconds in finals, after a time of 8.62 seconds in prelims. Her prelim time is 0.02 of a second off her season best. Alexis Pierre-Antoine had a PR in the 60m hurdles and finished fifth overall. She ran a time of 8.92 seconds.
Chloe Abbott was the top collegiate finisher in the women's 400m dash with a converted PR. She finished with a time of 55.87 seconds, which converts to 55.14 seconds. That time ranks eighth in the conference this season and is currently third among freshmen in the Big Ten. Abbott also led off the 4x400m relay and posted a split-time similar to her open 400m.
Katrina May used a personal best to win the women's pole vault. The freshman cleared 3.82m (12-6.25) and had her first collegiate attempts at 13 feet. Her clearance is nearly six inches better than her previous best as a Boilermaker.
Sarah Loesch continued her consistent season in the weight throw with a victory. Her best throw was 19.63m (64-5.00). The sophomore has thrown at least 63 feet in every meet this season and has a best of 20.03m (65-8.75), which ranks third in the conference. Alisha Bahler was runner-up with a throw of 17.87m (58-7.50), while Jessica DelBovo was third with a toss of 16.63m (54-6.75).
Susan Hubbard won the women's 800m run and Amy Poynter was runner-up Saturday. Hubbard had a time of 2:12.57 to win by nearly five seconds. Poynter crossed the line in 2:17.48. In the women's mile, Mary Abramson was the winner with a time of 5:11.28, which converts to 5:08.23. Kyra Ball ran her first mile as a Boilermaker and took third with a time of 5:13.41, which converts to 5:10.34. Rachel Bales was fourth in her first mile. She crossed the line in 5:13.64, which converts to 5:10.57.
On the men's side, Malcolm Dotson was among the top guys on the track. He won the 60m dash with a time of 6.79 seconds, and backed it up with a converted PR in the 200m dash. He won the 200m race with a time of 21.47 seconds, which converts to 21.10 seconds. His converted time is the third best in the Big Ten this season. Kyle Webb was runner-up in the 200m dash with a time of 21.97 seconds, which converts to 21.59 seconds. Josh Ebikwo was third in 22.42 seconds, a conversion time of 22.03 seconds.
Christopher Bluish had a PR in the men's 800m run en route to a victory. The sophomore ran a time of 1:54.81 seconds, which converts to 1:53.20. Shawndail McLaren and Obokhare Ikpefan went 1-2 in the 400m dash. McLaren ran a time of 49.08 seconds, while Ikpefan was just behind him in 49.44 seconds.
Cole Hester used a personal best to win the men's mile. He ran a time of 4:14.98, which converts to 4:11.77. Alex Milner was fifth in the race with a time of 4:24.04, which converts to 4:20.72. Ben Anderson was sixth overall and Danny Dalton eighth.
Justin Veteto was just off his career best in the men's 60m hurdles. The junior had the fastest time in prelims and finals, while his best time was 8.02 seconds. That time is 0.02 of a second off his lifetime best. Bijay Stephens had a PR with a time of 8.35 seconds in the finals to take fourth.
Eric Blackman cleared a Purdue-best height to win the high jump. He cleared 2.06m (6-9.00) on his first attempt. Gerald McGee had an indoor best to win the long jump. He leapt 7.36m (24-1.75) on his third attempt to win by nearly a foot. Matthew Garrison was third in the event, leaping just over 7 meters (23 feet). Anaquan Peterson won the triple jump with a mark of 15.63m (51-3.50). Peterson's three fair marks were all within two inches of each other.
Caleb Fricke won the weight throw with a mark of 18.20m (59-8.50). Luke Lewis was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a mark of 17.75m (58-3.00).
The Boilermakers head to South Bend, Indiana, next week for the prestigious Meyo Invitational. Three current Purdue school records are performances from previous Meyo Invitationals. The two-day meet begins Friday and runs through Saturday.
