Meet Program
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers wrap up the home slate for the indoor season this weekend at Lambert Fieldhouse. Purdue is set to host 12 schools for the two-day Fred Wilt Invitational, which is set to begin on Friday at noon ET.
Friday's action begins with the multi-events. The men's weight throw will be the first field event to commence and is slated for 4 p.m. The women's weight throw and men's pole vault are also scheduled for the meet's opening day.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi highlights the opening day. The junior currently has the No. 2 mark in the country, and Big Ten, with a school-record distance of 24.04m (78-10.50). He trails only NCAA Division I record holder Michael Lihrman of Wisconsin, who has a season-best of 24.47m (80-3.50). The competition for Enekwechi will be tough, though, as Southern Illinoi's Curtis Wideman is scheduled to compete. Wideman currently has the nation's No. 16 mark with a distance of 21.25m (76-8.75).
Moussa Conde and Tim Deal, both freshmen, will compete in the heptathlon, which is scheduled to have four events on Friday. Conde has competed in the heptathlon once this season, at the Razorback Invitational, and recorded the third-highest point total in school history with 5,167 points. Tim Deal will be competing in his first collegiate heptathlon.
On the women's side, Saturday's action is loaded with the fastest sprinters in Purdue school history. Carmiesha Cox, Twyla Winfrey, Savannah Carson and Devynne Charlton are scheduled to run the 60m dash. All four have top five times in program history. In the 200m, Cox, Charlton, Carson, Brionna Thomas, Savannah Roberson and Symone Black are scheduled to compete. Among those six are the fastest four females in school history, and six of the fastest nine.
The two fastest 400m dashers in school history are set to square off in the first heat on Saturday. Record-holder Aarin Jones and No. 2 Symone Black will run side-by-side, after Black had the better time a week ago. Three of the nine fastest 60m hurdles in school history will also compete Saturday. Charlton, the school record holder, Cierra Brown, Purdue's No. 6 hurdler, and Shantyra Delaney, the ninth-best hurdler, are all slated for the first heat.
On the men's side, Tyler Askew is set to run his first 60m dash of the season. Askew was a scorer at Big Tens a season ago, and competed for the first time this season last weekend at the Meyo Invitational in the long jump. Askew will also compete in the long jump, where he currently has the Big Tens second-best mark behind teammate Anaquan Peterson. Peterson is also in the long jump and will compete in the triple jump, where he is fourth in school history.
The Boilermakers are also sending a group of distance runners to Iowa State this weekend. Katie Hoevet, Hope Schmelzle, Sharise Lund and Vanessa McLeod will make the trip for the women, while Caleb Kerr, Jake Waterman, Matthew McClintock and Tate Schienbein will go for the men.
Live results will be available on PurdueSports.com and on Twitter @PurdueTrackXC. A Game Day Central page will also be available for up-to-the-second coverage of both meets. A full recap will be available following the completion of each day.
