WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 42 Purdue women's tennis team opened up the spring season in dominating fashion at the first day of the Purdue Invite Friday. Playing on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center, the Boilermakers swept Denver in singles and posted a 4-2 mark in two rounds of doubles. The Purdue Invite will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. ET with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.

The 118th-ranked senior Daniela Vidal showed her leadership by beating Maureen Slatter, 6-2, 6-4. The Boilermakers' other ranked player, No. 105 Andjela Djokovic, battled through to defeat her Pioneer opponent, Sonja Radosevic, 6-3, 7-6 (2).

Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum contributed to Purdue's singles sweep with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gracia Mboko. Senior Lynda Xepoleas used a 6-1, 6-3 outing to take down Charlotte Derbyshire.

Keeping the Boilermakers rolling, Krisztina Kapitany topped Evy Van Genechten, 7-6 (2), 6-1. With a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Julia O'Loughlin, Deborah Suarez added to the domination. Natalia Davila also pulled through in her 6-3, 6-3 victory over Morgan Barnhill.

Finishing the final sweep for Purdue was Claudia Escribens, who beat Michelle Garpenlov, 6-5, 6-3 in the last match for Purdue.

The doubles pair of Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum went 2-0 in their doubles matches earlier in the day, outplaying Tess Herder and Mariel Ante of Drake, 6-1, and bringing down DePaul's Ana Vladutu and Patricia Fargas, 6-4.

The junior tandem of Kapitany and Suarez broke even defeating Maddie Johnson and Nell Boyd of Drake (6-3), but fell short to the Blue Devil duo of Jasmin Kling and Patricia Lancranjan (6-2). Also, finishing at 1-1, Lynda Xepoleas and Andjela Djokovic beat Drake's Jordan Eggleston and Adrienne Jensen (6-4), however, they came up short to Rebeca Mitrea and Yuliya Shupenia of DePaul, 6-4.

The Purdue Invite is using the new ITA Shorted Format for scoring. It was voted upon by the ITA Division I operating committee in December 2014. The new format features no-ad scoring in singles and doubles, and doubles are played to six with a tiebreak at 6-all.
