Texas Relays Final Results | Bobcat Invite ResultsÂ
AUSTIN, Texas -Â The Boilermakers wrapped up the Texas Relays and Texas State Bobcat Invitational late Saturday night. The women's 4x400-meter relay team won their race at the Texas Relays with the sixth-fastest time in the country.
Taylor Dunlap, Carmiesha Cox, Symone Black and Aarin Jones ran away with the women's 4x400m relay title. The group of two sophomores, a freshman and a junior ran a time of 4:35.35 to beat the runners-up from Oklahoma by nearly three seconds. Jones capped the race with a strong anchor leg.
"It's a really nice feeling," Jones said after the race. "This is the first time Purdue has been here with the new coaching staff, so to come out and put on a good showing is really important because we want to come back. It's going to set us up really well (for the rest of the season). We wanted to run with teams that are really good, so we decided to come where the best come. The ladies, we all did an amazing job and we are excited for the rest of the season."
The women also had a team in the 4x100m relay finals Saturday at the Texas Relays. A day after breaking the school record with a time of 44.97 seconds, which ranks 14th in the country, the same team of Savannah Carson, Cox, Devynne Charlton and Autumn Heath was back on the track. They ran a time of 45.25 seconds, which is 0.10 of a second better than the previous school record they broke Friday, to finish sixth overall.
At the Bobcat Invite on Saturday, Vanessa McLeod was a winner in the 800m run. She ran a time of 2:11.32 to hang on by 0.10 of a second. The men's 4x400m relay team was within a second of victory as it finished runner-up. Chris Arvia, Kendal Frederick, Nicholas Parks and Obokhare Ikpefan ran a time of 3:13.34.
Tyler Askew was a winner at the Bobcat Invite. He took the long jump title with a new outdoor PR jump of 7.34 meters (24-1.00) with a legal wind of 1.8 meters per second. His mark ranks 28th in the country. Matthew Garrison also had a good day in the event as he set a new PR. Garrison recorded a mark of 7.21m (23-7.25) with a tailwind of 2.1 meters per second. His mark is top 50 in the country.
Demetrius Carr set a new lifetime PR in the triple jump en route to winning the event. Carr recorded a mark of 15.05 meters (49-4.50), his first career mark over 15 meters. The jump was nearly two and a half feet better than his previous outdoor best and six and a half inches better than his previous PR. Carr's jump ranks 32nd in the country.
The Boilermakers will be back on the road next weekend with split trips to the Florida Relays and the Stanford Invite.
