WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Kirk Haston recorded his 13th double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds and led Indiana to a 74-58 win over Purdue on Saturday.
The win gave the Hoosiers (19-11, 10-6 Big Ten) a regular-season sweep of Purdue for the first time since 1993 and only the seventh time in 26 years.
Haston, who is second in the Big Ten in scoring, scored 14 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with 4:20 left to give the Hoosiers a 21-point lead. They led by as many as 23.
He had some help from Jared Jeffries, who scored 15, Tom Coverdale, who had 13, and Jeffrey Newton with 11.
The Hoosiers held a 52-37 lead, but Maynard Lewis hit a 3-pointer for Purdue (14-13, 6-10). He was fouled on the play, and the call was argued by Indiana coach Mike Davis, who was called for a technical.
Carson Cunningham, the only senior for either team, made both free throws, Lewis missed his, and the Boilermakers trailed 52-42 with 11:01 left.
The Hoosiers took off from there, going on a 7-0 run capped off by a Coverdale 3-pointer.
The Boilermakers again felt the loss of their top two rebounders, John Allison and Rodney Smith. Haston, who has scored in double-digits in 26 straight games, had nine rebounds in the first half to lead the Hoosiers to a 47-33 rebounding edge.
The Indiana defense stifled the Boilermakers, who shot only 30 percent. Indiana has held five of its last six opponents to fewer than 60 points.
Cunningham led Purdue with 17 points and Joe Marshall scored 12.
There were seven lead changes and two ties in the first nine minutes of the first half. Indiana took a 16-15 lead on a Dane Fife basket and never trailed again.
Indiana built the lead to seven, but Purdue got consecutive 3-pointers from Lewis and Cunningham and trailed 26-25.
The Hoosiers responded with a 12-0 run, with six of the points scored by Newton, and led 38-26 at the half.
