EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State used a 22-0 first-half run and a suffocating defense to beat Purdue 72-55 Sunday and extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 41 games.

Andre Hutson scored 14 points, Zach Randolph had 12 and Marcus Taylor added 10 as the No. 5 Spartans (18-2, 7-2 Big Ten) turned a close, physical game into a rout.

The Boilermakers (13-7, 5-4) held the lead a few times over the first 12 minutes before the Spartans went on a 22-0 run. Michigan State had little trouble maintaining a big lead from then on.

The Spartans, hoping to move up in the national rankings after losses by No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Kansas, outrebounded Purdue 51-26 and held it to 28 percent shooting.

Purdue's Willie Deane scored 20 points.
