WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue cross country team travels to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday, September 17.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue cross country team travels to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday, September 17.
 
The men's 8k race begins the day at 9 a.m. ET, followed by the women's 5k at 9:45 a.m. Hosted by Indiana State, the event is held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

Along with Purdue and Indiana State, the 22-team field at the John McNichols Invitational includes Illinois, Louisville and Missouri. Twenty-six Boilermakers will compete on Saturday, 14 women and 12 men.
 
Saturday is the first of two trips to the Lavern Gibson course in 2021, as the Boilermakers also will race there on November 11 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
 
RETURN TO TERRE HAUTE
The Boilermakers have had recent success at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, competing at the John McNichols Invite in 2018, 2019 and 2021 in addition to a record-setting performance at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The men and women both earned team victories at the 2021 John McNichols Invite. Now-junior Katelyn Wasson was the women's runner-up as four Boilermakers placed in the top six, while the men notched four top-10 individual finishes. The men also won the 2018 event and the women finished second.

At the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, the Purdue men placed 11th overall, the team's best NCAA finish since 1950.
 
LAST TIME OUT: OPENER AT VALPARAISO
Purdue opened the 2022 season at the Winrow Open on September 2 in Valparaiso, Indiana. The Boilermaker women were second as a team and the men placed third. Freshman Katherine Rumsey notched the best finish by any Boilermaker runner, as she was fourth overall in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Joey Kasch paced the men with a 13th-place finish.

The Boilermakers remain in the state of Indiana for a third consecutive meet when they travel to Notre Dame for the Joe Piane Invitational on September 30.
